A fully integrative perspective, conflict-focused treatment expedites work with individuals, with couples, and with families. In the is workshop Dr. Heitler presents
Working with Couples in Conflict Couple therapy can become an increasingly essential treatment modality for distressed marriages, and also for efficient and enduring treatment of individuals' depression and anger disorders. Conflict resolution techniques can be applied also to mediation work and to treatment with pre-divorce couples. This workshop includes analysis of the videotape The Angry Couple: Conflict-Focused Treatment. Treating Anxiety, Depression, and Anger: Individual and Couple Treatment Strategies Anxiety and depression are highly responsive to conflict resolution treatment techniques. Try looking up anger in the DSM-IV. ... Not there?!! For a symptom that doesn't even make it into the DSM-IV index, most therapists see--and receive--a lot of anger. Anger is often the ugliest, frequently the scariest, and probably the most prevalent emotion most therapists encounter. This workshop offers multi-faceted perspectives on treatment with angry individuals and couples including strategies for when patients' anger turns on you, the therapist. Conflict-focused treatment uses anxiety, depression, and anger to identify patients' key issues. The treatment is broadly integrative, incorporating psychodynamic exploration plus behavioral retraining, both in a systems context. Dr. Heitler's video The Angry Couple: Conflict-Focused Treatment, which shows Dr. Heitler working with a difficult couples in five sessions over the course of a therapy, brings to life the theory and techniques Dr. Heitler presents. Her lectures plus analyses of this video create a lively and very practically useful workshop.
